Erie ‘09 Update www.erie09.net

Plans are well underway . . . Activities are scheduled . . . Projects are being put into place.  But it’s not too late! It’s not too late to ask for donations for our goodie bags . . . It’s not too late to get sponsor-ships for the many activities at the convention . . . And it certainly is not

too late for you to REGISTER! There’s no reason why more than half of the members in Division One can’t register for at least one day of the convention. Work the registration desk for an hour or two . . . Attend the Governor’s banquet . . . Learn about Kiwanis in action at the voting session . . . Or do your part to help raise the healthy awareness of children with the Wellsville Project! You won’t be sorry you did.

Goodie bags 500 bags were donated by Northwest Savings Bank. We need “giveaways” to include in our goodie bag for everyone who registers. Every club should be working on getting donations. If you know someone who might be willing to donate 500 items for the bags, contact Randy at rrg3@psu.edu.

Fishing Charter — we are working on an allday fishing activity which would take place on Thursday, August 20.  Details will be forthcoming.

Special notes: Encourage ALL DIVISION ONE MEMBERS to attend the convention! We need at least 50% attendance of all our members. You don’t have to stay all three days — register for one day and come help. It’s a great experience!

You can be a dinghy too! A sponsorship of just $100 will get you a oneofakind “dinghy” pin and a possible

invitation to a special reception.

ALL KIWANIS MEMBERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND THE PLANNING MEETINGS. This is a HUGE event for our Division, and it will take everyone’s help to make it a success. If you want more information about Erie ‘09, contact Joe Murphy at murfmurf123@verizon.net or Cathy Szymanski at cathy@szy.com.

NEXT MEETING: Wednesday, June 10, at the Crossroads Dinor in Edinboro. Please arrive at 5:30 p.m. if you wish to eat; meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. sharp.

Division One Goals for 2008-2009

Donations — I would encourage each club to contribute $5 per member to the Pa. District Foundation. We saw an increase in giving this past year, but there are still clubs who did not participate. This goal is aligned with one of Governor John Burke’s goals: to create eight new scholarships this year. Two high school students in our Division benefited from scholarships last year (Fort LeBoeuf and Meadville). This is a strong message to our communities that Kiwanis supports the local areas.

Membership — Growth should be an ongoing goal of every member, not just governors and lt. governors. We, as Kiwanians, represent a great service organization and we should all want to “share/grow our stories” with friends and

colleagues.

Communication — Please share your club’s activities through our Division newsletter (Patti at ladyp@coaxpa.com), attend interclubs, use your local newspapers, and send emails. Don’t reinvent the wheel. Let it roll with less friction by asking others for advice and help when needed.

Take pride in your club — Promote your club’s accomplishments, have good speakers at meetings, invite friends to attend even if they don’t want to join, and have fun!
